Important elements of focus in traffic accident reconstruction

Wednesday, August 31, 2016 By Jim Otway Leave a Comment

In a past post, we discussed some basic aspects that accident reconstructionists look at when evaluating the details of a crash. It is a complicated field, but the evidence collected from the process can be crucial to the success of holding the right person accountable for causing an accident.

This post presents some other aspects that reconstruction helps clarify following a motor vehicle accident. A personal injury attorney whose goal is to help an accident victim get the compensation they deserve might look at some of these factors.

The reconstruction process provides information that can help parties identify who was operating the vehicle/vehicles at the time of an accident. In criminal cases that stem from a crash, for example, the defendant’s best line of defense might be to claim that he or she wasn’t even driving a vehicle. Reconstruction can help confirm or cast doubt on the identity of the driver.

Even if the identity of the driver is confirmed, it must be evaluated whether that driver violated traffic laws and was carelessly driving. Evaluating the tire marks on the roadway, as well as the condition of the tires of the vehicles involved, gives reconstructionists a sense of how fast the cars were going and when a driver would have started braking.

A traffic accident is the result of various actions, factors and moving parts. Reconstruction is helpful in breaking down the details that can help victims of crashes show how they were, in fact, the victims. An experienced car accident lawyer in your area will understand the importance of the many details of the traffic incident and help you put forth a case to serve your best interests.
