AMERICAN COLLEGE OF TRIAL LAWYERS

James L. Otway was selected to become a Fellow of the American College in 2003 by the nation's leading trial attorneys. The American College is widely considered to be the premier professional organization for attorneys. The American College, founded in 1950, is "composed of the best of the trial bar from the United States and Canada. Fellowship in the College is by invitation, extended only after careful investigation, to those experienced trial attorneys who have demonstrated exceptional skill as advocates and whose professional careers have been marked by the highest standards of ethical conduct, professionalism, and civility." There are some 5,000 fellows in the U.S., and membership can never exceed more than one percent (1 %) of the total lawyer population of any state. Among the attorneys belonging to the College are the justices of the United States Supreme Court.

MILLION DOLLAR ADVOCATES

James L. Otway and Christopher J. Russo, Jr. are members of the Million Dollar Advocates, an organization which is comprised of attorneys who have won million and multi-million dollar verdicts and settlements in personal injury and wrongful death cases. There are only 3,000 lawyers nationwide who belong to this organization. The Million Dollar Advocates Forum was created to honor attorneys who are particularly skilled in litigating complex cases

MARYLAND BAR FOUNDATION

James L. Otway and Leslie Hayes Russo are Fellows of the Maryland Bar Foundation which has as its purposes the maintenance of the integrity of the legal profession and the improvement of the administration of justice. Membership is limited to not more than 2.5 percent of the Maryland State Bar Association's membership and is by invitation.

MARYLAND TRIAL LAWYERS ASSOCIATION

Otway Russo's attorneys are all members of the Maryland Trial Lawyers' Association (MTLA). James L. Otway is a member of MTLA's Technology Committee and Publications Committees. Leslie Hayes Russo was selected by fellow trial attorneys to be a member of MTLA's Board of Governors. She is currently Vice Chair and will become Chair of the MTLA Publications Committee in Fall 2005. She is also a member of MTLA's Amicus Committee which files briefs in Maryland's appellate courts on issues of substantial importance to the victims of negligence. Ms. Russo was recently appointed to MTLA's Legislative Committee which provides testimony to the General Assembly on legislation to protect the rights of Maryland consumers and the victims of personal injury and malpractice.

The Maryland Trial Lawyers Association is a non-profit organization dedicated to keeping families safe. The stated mission of the Association is to "help individuals harmed by the unsafe behavior of others to obtain meaningful redress through the civil justice system. The Association zealously guards the right to trial by jury, vigorously advocates on behalf of consumers' legal rights, seeks to advance excellence in trial advocacy through continuing legal education and member services, and is committed to the highest standards of ethical conduct and integrity."

Christopher J. Russo, Jr. is a member of the Board of Governors of the Trial Lawyers Association of Metropolitan Washington , D.C. (TLA-DC). TLA-DC is a voluntary, nonprofit bar association. Its members strive to hold wrongdoers responsible for the harms they inflict on consumers, workers, and families. TLA-DC supports its members chiefly by championing legislation that promotes and protects clients' rights, providing high-quality educational programs and offering helpful benefits and services. TLA-DC shares with its members an abiding commitment to maintaining a civil justice system that enables citizens to have their claims for full and fair compensation adjudicated promptly in a trial by jury.
